Hello friends! Welcome to Jeremy and Emily’s blog which will be recording our journey to losing 50 lbs each by June 5th, 2010. The date is significant for two reasons. First, it is Jeremy’s 25th birthday. Second, it is one week before Emily graduates from UCSC with a bachelors degree in U.S. History and a minor in Education. Jeremy has already completed his undergraduate degrees (East Asian History and Modern Literary Studies) and is currently a graduate student in the history program here at UC Santa Cruz.  You might be asking “Ok, but who the heck are Emily and Jeremy and why do I care?” Excellent question!

We are a happily engaged couple, planning to be married in 2012 (shortly before the apocalypse). Emily calls the mountains of sunny San Diego home and is the youngest of three children. Her passions include all that is Disney (especially Donald Duck), animals (“oh the cute little puppy!”), culinary adventures (that sometimes end in disaster) and the accumulation of knowledge. Jeremy hails from San Jose and is the oldest of ten children (I know!). Jeremy has many hobbies in order to keep himself out of trouble, including reading (classic literature, unabridged behemoths like “Les Miserables”), playing video games, watching anime and attempting to comprehend thousands of years of Japanese history. Our lives intersected in September 2006 at UC Santa Cruz and it’s been a picnic ever since (with the occasional invasion of ants).

Our one year anniversary, when Jeremy proposed!

Our one year anniversary, when Jeremy proposed!

We recently celebrated our third anniversary and after watching an episode of “The Biggest Loser” we had a shared epiphany: we both needed to lose weight. We had discussed it many times, made plans, created schedules…to no avail. However, this time is different. WE MADE A CONTRACT!!! It bears our signatures and there is no backing out. This page is being written on Day 2 of our journey, and we intend to write in it everyday as a way of tracking our progress and keeping ourselves commited (to the project, not to an asylum).

So, here we go…join us as we attempt to lose more than our minds.
